Following the sacking of Sean Dyche, the Friedkin Group have acted swiftly and appointed David Moyes as the new manager of Everton.

Moyes is back for a second spell at Goodison Park and has been tasked with the job of keeping Everton up.

The Toffees are currently dangerously close to the relegation zone as they sit just one point above 18th-placed Ipswich Town.

Granted, Everton do have a game in hand but that’s against Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who sit top of the Premier League.

So quite clearly January reinforcements are needed and Moyes’ previous comments hint that he could look to sign a £30m Serie A star.

David Moyes could reignite interest in Scott McTominay at Everton

Moyes was desperate to sign Scott McTominay during his tenure at West Ham United and even launched a £30m bid for the former Manchester United midfielder in 2023.

Ultimately, United turned down the approach and he would eventually move on to Serie A giants Napoli – where he is now flourishing.

Moyes, writing in his BBC column last summer, spoke candidly about his pursuit of McTominay and just how much he admires him as a player.

“Lots of managers have hard luck stories about players that get away and McTominay is one of those for me because I tried to sign him for West Ham last summer,” the Scotsman wrote.

Moyes continued: “McTominay was a player who I felt I needed at the time, but we didn’t quite get it over the line and he went on to score a lot of big goals for Manchester United last season instead.”

Now at Everton, with funds available, it wouldn’t at all be surprising if Moyes reignited his interest in McTominay.

Everton were in talks to sign McTominay last year, so the club will have already carried out the necessary due diligence.

Maybe it’s a deal that could take place in the summer, once he completes his first season at Napoli.

McTominay could be Moyes’ new Marouane Fellaini

Moyes had great success at Everton with goalscoring midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who acted as a centre-forward at times.

The towering Belgium international was prolific under his stewardship and his form earned him a big-money move to Manchester United.

Moyes could replicate that Fellaini role with McTominay, who if he were to join Everton, will certainly help to solve the goalscoring woes.

Everton just simply don’t score enough goals and Moyes must recruit accordingly to make sure everyone is chipping in from all areas of the pitch.

So for that reason, the ‘unplayable’ McTominay would be a really excellent signing.
