Everton had a really quiet winter transfer window as they made just one addition to David Moyes’ squad.
Everton’s only signing was Carlos Alcaraz, who made his debut for the Toffees on Saturday in the 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
Despite the result, Moyes was really impressed with Alcaraz’s performance and so too was Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who said he was ‘very, very good.’
Moyes did want a few more additions in the window, mainly a centre-forward due to the injuries to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja.
But, it’s now come to light that he actually said no to signing a Premier League-winning striker.

David Moyes said no to Everton signing Michy Batshuayi
According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon, Everton were exploring a deal to sign Galatasaray striker Michy Batshuayi during the winter transfer window.
The Toffees were looking at a loan deal with Moyes really intent on adding a centre-forward to his attacking ranks.
However, it was actually the Everton boss who pulled the plug on the deal after failing to be convinced by Batshuayi’s reports – having carried out background checks on the former Chelsea striker.
The Belgian international ended up joining Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt on a permanent deal, instead.
Everton will now have more money to spend in the summer
Whilst Moyes would’ve hoped to add a little more quality to his squad last month, the lack of spending has actually set Everton up well for a big spend in the summer.
Moyes was reluctant to sign players who weren’t long-term buys, hence the decision to back away from deals like Patson Daka and Danny Ings, who were both mooted with a move to Goodison.
The PSR issues are now expected to clear by the summer which will give the Everton boss substantial financial resources.
With safety now looking extremely likely, Everton were able to take that risk and make just one addition, with one eye on next season.
