Djed Spence’s new asking price is actually affordable but there’s still a problem for Everton

Djed Spence has emerged as a target for Everton in recent weeks and while his new asking price isn’t too bad, there remains a potential barrier for the Toffees.

Spence has been the talk of the town for a lot of people over the past few weeks.

After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥

The 25-year-old has really impressed at the World Cup, including in England’s heartbreaking defeat to Argentina in the semi-final.

Spence started that game and did well for large parts, especially with Lionel Messi in his orbit.

His showings have led to a price increase, but it is perhaps something else that could make life difficult for Everton.

As well as Everton, there is also interest in Spence from Inter Milan.

The Italian giants recently saw a move for Anan Khalaili collapse, and they are now looking at other targets.

Guela Doue is on their radar, but so is Spence.

Following his exploits this summer, Spence’s asking price is now €35 million according to Marco Barzaghi.

All things considered, that is not a bad price at all for a player of his quality, versatility and Premier League experience.

But Barzaghi says the player wants to play in the Champions League.

Just focusing on Everton’s right-back search, who should the club bring in this summer and why? 🤔

From Spence, to White, to Norton-Cuffy, there have been links to so many players so far…

He said on his YouTube channel: “You’ve seen the photos, and yesterday’s match probably pushed his price up a little as well. I don’t know whether De Zerbi is willing to let a first-team player leave Tottenham like that.

“It’s true that he has Pedro Porro ahead of him, who reached the World Cup final after scoring a decisive goal himself, but I’m still not sure they’ll let him go.

“So Spence has essentially said, ‘We’ll see’. Now, after the disappointment of the World Cup defeat, he’ll be able to sort out his future and speak with the player.

“As we’ve said, in principle there’s an opening because he wants more playing time and wants to play in the Champions League. But the price is high – we’re talking about around €35 million. That’s about €10 million more than Khalaili, whose deal would have reached €28–29 million including bonuses.

“The question now is what can be worked out with Tottenham. At the moment, Spence seems to be the preferred option, even if he’s expensive.”

The fact that Everton have no European football whatsoever to offer Spence could now be costly.

Inter, of course, are in the Champions League for 2026/27 and will fight for the league title as well.

There are good arguments for Spence to push to join Everton. But at the moment it feels unlikely we’ll see him gracing the Hill Dickinson Stadium next term.
