Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko has hinted he will remain on Merseyside for next season.

The Ukraine international’s Everton contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

It is understood that Mykolenko is expected to extend his Everton contract, with talks ongoing between the club and his camp.

Vitalii Mykolenko admission suggests Everton contract extension

Everton hold Mykolenko’s extension clause, which means the player does not have a say in whether it is taken up or not.

Everything appears to be pointing towards the defender sticking around as he’s already discussed next season.

What changes would you make to our prediction of Moyes’ XI on Sunday? 😬

“I think we’re playing better football, more interesting football for the fans. It’s important the fans enjoy watching our games,” he told the Everton website.

“Hopefully, we’ll keep improving for next season.”

Keeping Mykolenko would be a smart move from Everton for a number of reasons.

Everton want to add new full-backs over the summer and keeping Mykolenko as an option at left-back will halve the job on that side of defence.

The Toffees still require two right-backs. Therefore, keeping the Ukraine international does offer a somewhat reliable option for Moyes.

Mykolenko has received a lot of interest from European clubs, with some expecting him to potentially become available this summer.

Losing a 26-year-old Premier League starting-calibre player as a free agent would not be smart business for Angus Kinnear and The Friedkin Group.

Troy Deeney praised Mykolenko after his performance against Manchester City earlier in the week.

The Ukraine international may not offer Everton the attacking output Moyes will dream of, but he has certainly proven himself to be a competent option defensively.
