Everton remain in negotiations over a clause in Dele Alli’s transfer from Tottenham Hotspur.
Dele Alli‘s fall from grace in the English capital led to a permanent move to Goodison Park in January 2022.
Everton signed the midfielder on an initial free transfer, but the deal has the potential to eventually reach £40 million. The Toffees are first expected to cough up £10m once he reaches 20 appearances for the club.
Dele made 13 appearances for Everton before he was loaned out to Besiktas, and has since sat on the sidelines after suffering an injury that has kept him out for nine months.
Dele has now returned to training though and looks to be closing in on a return for Everton, but Sean Dyche’s side are eager to renegotiate his contract so they don’t have to pay such a hefty fee less than six months before his contract expires.
The Mirror have now reported that Everton and Tottenham remain in negotiations over the deal, though they seem far apart on their solutions.
The Times have claimed that Spurs are prepared to reduce the fee to £8m, while also reducing the amount of appearances required before Everton have to pay up.
The Merseyside outfit have reportedly rejected the offer, but both parties remain open to further talks.
Everton will be eager to resolve the problem before Dele closes in his 20th appearance, which could happen in the new year after Sean Dyche claimed he was ‘going well’ at the start of the month.
As relayed the Liverpool Echo, he said: ““Dele is going well.
“He’s on the grass but not with us yet. He’s back fully on the grass with the sports science side, fitness, going through football-related drills but the actual freedom to come and join in with us he’s not there yet. Hopefully over the next week he’ll start slowly blending in.

“He’s still got a bit to go because obviously he’s been out a long time, he needs game programme and all that. To get him back on with us would be really pleasing.
“He’s so unlucky, the last time 12-13 weeks ago he was really unlucky for the damage that was done but the good news is it’s been settling down and he’s feeling good. I literally just saw him as we were walking in here and he said: ‘Yeah, I’m feeling great’.”
Can Dele redeem himself at Everton?
Dele Alli finally looks close to making his comeback for Everton, five months after he opened up about his difficult childhood and addiction in an interview with Gary Neville.
Both Everton and Tottenham are eager to see the 27-year-old get his career back on track, hence why the London outfit are open to negotiations.
Sean Dyche has made it clear that he wants to give Dele another chance at Goodison Park, and fans will want nothing more than to enjoy his redemption on Merseyside.
Dele will have a tough challenge to claw his way back into the team though, with the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Amadou Onana really impressing this term.
