Everton are just a matter of weeks away from being able to make some significant changes to their squad.

For the first time in years, Everton are going to have some freedom in the transfer market to really bolster their options.

David Moyes is going to need every penny the Friedkins can offer with a lot of work needing to be done on Merseyside.

Not only are the Toffees needing improvement to the quality of their squad, but they’re also set to lose a considerable number of players as free agents.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has warned Everton over his future having admitted he will not be waiting much longer for them.

Fortunately, the Friedkins are ready to invest in transfers this summer.

But there is one player on their radar who has now shared his desire to potentially join one of their Premier League rivals.

Maxime Esteve moots Tottenham move over Everton

Everton are showing interest in signing Maxime Esteve from Burnley this summer as they look to bolster their backline.

Despite the Clarets securing promotion to the top flight, there is a lot of interest growing in the £30m-rated French defender.

Speaking to Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old has dealt Everton a major blow to their plans ahead of the window.

“I’ve never really been a fan of a club when I was a kid. I was more a fan of some players, but not a fan of a club. I dreamed of England really when I was a kid, I watched on TV. My favourite player was Gareth Bale when he played in Tottenham at the time,” he said.

“My dream is more to play for a top-six club in England.”

Moyes has personally watched Esteve this season as he looks for potential additions for his defence.

But Burnley’s return to the big time could have issued a major blow to any hope of signing Esteve this summer.

Esteve doubles down on Tottenham interest

It is not just Everton with the defender on their radar as Tottenham are also keen to sign Esteve this summer.

Any move away from Turf Moor is now looking extremely unlikely and would surely cost a considerable amount more following their promotion.

Esteve has enjoyed a stunning campaign in the Championship but he hasn’t taken his eyes off the Premier League action.

The Frenchman has likened himself to Tottenham centre-back Micky van de Ven as he doubles down on his Spurs comments.

“There’s a player I love very much in the Premier League… Micky van de Ven, the centre of Tottenham,” he added.

“He is very fast, and I like him because I have the impression that I have a bit of the same speed qualities, even if he goes much faster. I feel inspired by him, because he’s a player who has about the same profile as me.”
