Well, this has been far from a Deadline Day for the ages. Not for Everton, or anyone really in the Premier League for that matter.
With the English top flight rocked by the Toffees’ November points deduction, and a second alleged breach just last month, it seems like many sides were left scared at what might befall them should they fall out of line.
If the Premier League wanted regulation, they’ve got it. But by doing so with such unnecessary force, they could well have tarnished the one thing that makes the division so alluring: it boasts all the big names because of the big money spent.
That being said, Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have not been completely ignoring their duties despite the lack of funds.
In fact, this latest report is hinting at the chance of a late swoop, even if the manager essentially shut down the possibility in his press conference earlier today.
Will Everton sign anyone this Deadline Day?
‘I don’t even think it’s probable,’ Dyche replied when asked if there would be any signings. ‘It’s improbable that anyone comes in today.’
It seems unwise to doubt him, but managers have lied in the past in an effort to keep their cards close to their chest.
And whilst these aforementioned restrictions are grossly well-documented, he would still be keen to operate under the radar anyway, as most in his position do.
It seems that such a notion is supported by Paul Brown’s claim, with the journalist telling GIVEMESPORT that there is still work being done to push through a late move.
He noted: ‘Everton are still trying to do some business. They’ve been trying to get a loan forward in for quite some time but haven’t managed to get very far down the line with any of the targets they were going for.
‘There is still an outside chance they manage to do something before the close of the window, but I think the chances of that are probably receding. I think Everton would have liked to bring some money in this window too, but the problem for Sean Dyche is that his squad is quite stretched at the minute.’
What forwards have Everton shown an interest in?
Whilst Chuba Akpom might have been the obvious option for the Toffees to capture late on, given he was the forward with the most links, recent reports have seen another side push ahead in the race.
The free-spending Nottingham Forest are the ones now pushing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That does not leave many options left really for Everton, but with Ismaila Sarr another noted, who has been a long-time target of theirs, perhaps the Senegal international marks the only one left for them to snag at the death.
Ironically enough, he would arguably be the perfect signing for Dyche’s run-in.
