Everton are lining up for a big spend this summer transfer window.

The Friedkin Group are ready to splash the cash at Everton and David Moyes will be given a big say on any forthcoming recruits.

Current sporting director Kevin Thelwell is set to leave Goodison Park, so the Scotsman will assume some of his responsibilities as it stands.

Moyes already has his eye on Sunderland’s Chris Rigg, who has excelled in the Championship since making his breakthrough 18 months ago.

Burnley’s Maxime Esteve is also being monitored by the Toffees, as they place great emphasis on recruiting from the second tier.

And now, it’s just come to light that Everton chiefs have already held talks with a talented midfielder on the continent ahead of the summer window.

Everton hold talks to sign Merlin Rohl

According to German outlet Kicker, Everton chiefs have held talks with Merlin Rohl’s representatives ahead of a potential summer switch.

The Freiburg midfielder operates as an advanced number eight and has impressed enough to earn caps with Germany’s under-21s.

Moyes is thought to be very familiar with Rohl as his West Ham side played against him on four occasions in the Europa League last term.

Clearly, Moyes was moved by Rohl’s performances, as it would appear he’s recommended the 22-year-old to the Everton board.

Rohl could break Freiburg’s record sale

Freiburg’s current record sale is Kevin Schade, who joined Brentford in a £21m transfer during the summer of 2023.

Kicker report that it’s very feasible for Rohl to command a fee that exceeds that, with the cash-rich Toffees keen on landing his signature.

Interestingly, Merseyside rivals Liverpool have considered a move for the Germany youth international previously, so there is expected to be competition.

Moyes’ side would indeed be able to offer much more regular football, so that could put them in the driving seet.
