Seamus Coleman’s playing career at Everton has come to an end.

The veteran announced his decision not to extend his contract at Everton towards the back end of last season.

So, David Moyes and his recruitment chiefs will almost certainly sign a new right-back in the summer transfer window.

After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥

Tottenham Hotspur and England full-back Djed Spence has been linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this month.

Now, there is a report emerging about a former Arsenal right-back and it’s very possible that Everton are one of the unnamed Premier League clubs exploring the deal.

Everton could be looking at Takehiro Tomiyasu

Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath has just taken to X to report on former Gunners defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

McGrath wrote: “Ex-#Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu unlikely to take opportunity to stay at Ajax next season.

“Premier League and other European clubs looking at him at the World Cup, where he has played in both Japan matches.”

Given the Toffees are in the market for a right-back, it wouldn’t at all be surprising if they are one of the clubs who have made their interest known.

Moyes greatly values Premier League experience, and Tomiyasu has made 65 appearances in England’s top flight.

What would you be doing with Nathan Patterson this summer if you were Angus Kinnear? 👋

Surely the writing is on the wall now?

The 27-year-old is also approaching the prime years of his career, so he’d be an experienced addition to the squad as well.

Tomiyasu is currently away at the World Cup with Japan, so a decision on his future likely won’t be made until after the tournament.

Everton would be wise to pitch their project and try to land his signature on a free transfer.

Mikel Arteta was a huge admirer of Tomiyasu during his four-year spell in North London.

Speaking in 2023, Arteta stated: “He can play in any position in the backline, any formation in the backline, we don’t have another player like him.

“At defending, he’s probably one of the best that I’ve seen in many situations. His concepts, his principles, the way he applies that, the way he goes into duels.”
