Everton could find their new Yerry Mina in latest transfer target

Everton fans are expecting a big summer after a disappointing end to the season – and one target could be the Toffees’ next Yerry Mina.

Everton slipped to 13th place on the final day of the season, which was highly disappointing.

In the weeks prior Everton occupied eighth place in the table, and looked good for a European competition.

Which of these players do you want to see Everton SIGN in 2026?

But Everton’s loss of defensive solidity was a big factor behind their terrible end to the season.

Losing Jarrad Branthwaite didn’t help matters. But David Moyes also failed to put Jake O’Brien in the middle, which could have helped the Toffees.

Michael Keane and James Tarkowski will both be here next season, but there is definitely room to upgrade on them.

And potentially, Everton could now be looking at a very promising defender.

According to Fussball Transfers, Everton are in the mix to sign Roggerio Nyakossi, along with VfB Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Augsburg and Werder Bremen.

Nyakossi had a strong season in 2025/26, helping OH Leuven to a European play-off spot.

Newly promoted Ipswich Town, and French teams Lyon and Strasbourg, and Dutch club Feyenoord, are also said to admire Nyakossi.

So he is clearly quite coveted.

But all of these teams could well be on the back foot, because Marseille reportedly hold a buy-back clause on Nyakossi, thought to be worth around €6 million.

Everton have their work cut out to sign Nyakossi. But if they can pull it off then it’s possible he could become the club’s new Yerry Mina.

First of all, Nyakossi stands at a towering 6ft 4in and weighs around 91kg. Mina is the exact same height and only very slightly heavier.

Like Mina was, Nyakossi is aerially dominant.

He doesn’t dive into tackles as much as the committed Mina did, but he certainly uses his big frame to win physical battles like the Colombian.

And he also has an attacking threat. In 33 games for OH Leuven, he has scored five goals, which is an impressive return for a central defender.

Mina scored nine goals in 99 appearances for Everton, meaning a goal every 11 games. Nyakossi has scored a goal every 6.6 matches so far at OH Leuven.

Who should be Everton’s starting centre-backs for next season? 😬

One way the pair differ though is when it comes to injuries. Mina was in the treatment room a lot during his time at Goodison Park, but Nyakossi has yet to really struggle with injuries in his career so far.

Everton certainly need a centre-back this summer and Nyakossi seems very promising.

But we’ve all seen Moyes’ reluctance to use younger players at Everton so, as good as Nyakossi looks, this may be one for Evertonians not to get overly excited about.
