Everton want to make Hayden Hackney their first signing this summer.

David Moyes is clearly expecting Idrissa Gana Gueye to leave upon the expiry of his contract later this month.

So, Everton are pressing ahead with a deal to sign Hayden Hackney as his replacement after an impressive season in the Championship.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

The Middlesbrough captain was voted the Player of the Season in the second tier, thus alerting the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

But, it looks as though Everton are set to land the 23-year-old’s signature and perhaps in one of the best deals of the last decade.

Everton could sign Hayden Hackney for just £10m

It was being reported that Hackney was valued at around £30m by Middlesbrough earlier this year.

More recent reports suggested that Boro wouldn’t sanction Hackney sale for any less than £20m and were even prepared to lose him on a free transfer next year if no one met that fee.

However, now, according to Daily Telegraph journalist Dominic King, Everton could sign the under-21 Euros winner for just £10m.

Writing on X, King stated: “Everton are pursuing Hayden Hackney and he would keen on a move that would cost in the region of £10m; David Moyes has made it clear his club must show ambition this summer to keep progressing.”

If you were Angus Kinnear who would you be going all out for this summer? 💰

If the Toffees do manage to agree a deal for that figure, it’d allow them to sign another statement midfielder for perhaps in excess of £30m.

Moyes’ midfield ranks would then become one of the strongest outside the big six in the Premier League.

The only downside would be whether it stunts the development of Harrison Armstrong, who has hardly been given a chance since returning from a successful loan spell at Preston North End in January.

Armstrong would likely have to leave on loan again to ensure he plays regular game time.
