Everton could’ve signed him for just £8m in 2023, now he’s worth £40m and has given Pep Guardiola nightmares

Everton have missed out on their fair share of bargains in the past, but they were handed an excellent opportunity in 2023.

It was a bold choice for David Moyes to make one Everton January signing as there could’ve been some bargains waiting in the shadows.

No doubt this has proven to be the right choice as Everton find themselves eight games unbeaten with the same squad Sean Dyche struggled so much with.

This is of course without the exception of Moyes’ first signing on his return, as Kevin Thelwell handed Everton a bargain with Carlos Alcaraz.

But there was one signing in 2023 that, if the Scotsman was in charge, would’ve leaped on the chance to bring him to Goodison Park.

Everton could’ve signed Callum Hudson-Odoi for just £8 million

It seems as though the Toffees have missed many tricks in not signing players.

Some have been out of their hands as Man United snatched Everton target Michael Owen in what would’ve made for a brilliant piece of business.

But some have just been transfer howlers, as Everton said no to signing Bruno Guimaraes, and in 2023, they followed this up with a failed pursuit of Callum Hudson-Odoi.

According to The Standard in 2023, Chelsea were willing to offer Hudson-Odoi out for £8m as Fulham, Everton and Nottingham Forest were given the chance to sign him.

Everton and Fulham didn’t know then how much of a bargain this would turn out to be, but Forest clearly did and signed him for even less with a fee of £3m.

This has now made the Toffees recruitment team look silly, which is nothing new, as Forest set an asking price of £40m for Hudson-Odoi last summer (MailOnline).

Hudson-Odoi dominates Man City as Everton will kick themselves

The main underdog story in the Premier League this season has been the Tricky Trees, as Forest continued their fortunes with a 1-0 win against Man City on Saturday.

Hudson-Odoi has been a big part of their success, as the 24-year-old continued his fine form against Pep Guardiola’s side, dominating the likes of Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes.

With the winger doing this against England’s finest team, it shows how Everton will be rueing this missed opportunity.

Iliman Ndiaye has been on fire for the Toffees this season, but Hudson-Odoi would have been an excellent capture and would no doubt be an improvement on Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom.

At just £8m, it makes you think what could’ve been, and the Friedkin Group can’t be next to make this mistake.
