‘Baines-ball’… Everton fans getting excited after what they saw in emphatic Under 18s victory

Everton’s first team may not have been in action over the weekend but there has been plenty going on around the club.

Sean Dyche’s side have been handed some extra rest ahead of their trip down to Arsenal on the weekend.

The Merseyside Derby was postponed due to Storm Darragh with the safety of all involved taking priority on Saturday morning.

However, there has still been games played by Everton’s women and some of their youth sides in the meantime.

Everton’s U18s were in action on Wednesday night with an emphatic victory sealed by Leighton Baines’ side on his 40th birthday.

And it seems there was one moment, in particular, which really impressed the Everton fans.

Everton fans wowed by Leighton Baines’ U18s side

It was an emphatic 7-0 victory for Baines’ U18s side against Nottingham Forest in the FA Youth Cup, which was played at Goodison Park.

The game was was dominated by Everton youngster Harrison Armstrong who scored a hat-trick on the evening.

However, he also provided three assists with a cheeky backheel for Joel Catesby to slot the ball home which really captured the delight of the Everton faithful.

Taking to social media, @ash742292357820 very simply said: ‘That flick holy’. Whilst there was also a clear appreciation for Baines’ style of play with @67bab adding: ‘Wow if only the first team played, ah forget it. The Bainsey magic rubbing off?’

They were not alone in their praise of the goal with @jnsno1878 also saying: ‘Baines-Ball’. With Arsenal coming up on the weekend, @lewisefc__ jokingly said: ‘Call them all up!’

Some were even suggesting they play better football than Dyche’s side, @bickfordblue claimed: ‘Just said better than watching the first team’. Whilst @HJJ92_ also said: ‘Seems like Baines & Tait are building something special in the academy’.

Considering the Everton first team are slumped down in 15th spot of the table, this emphatic victory clearly offered fans some enjoyable football to watch.

However, there could be more promising times ahead at Goodison with The Friedkin having an ‘exciting’ plan for Everton ahead of their takeover.

Leighton Baines making a positive impression as Everton coach

Having enjoyed his playing career at Goodison, Baines is now heading up the management role in the U18s side.

Anthony Gordon recently praised Baines with the former Everton winger saying the left-back was a true legend on Merseyside.

The U18s side also enjoyed a dazzling win over Liverpool just a matter of days ago, with the 3-2 blockbuster going their way.

Even Phil Jagielka claimed Baines could come out of retirement having kept his fitness levels up after hanging his boots up.
