Everton were held to a goalless draw against relegation-threatened Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Everton just didn’t get going against Burnley and the lack of a prolific centre-forward was once again highlighted.
David Moyes came out with worrying comments after the game, noting that Burnley is a really tough fixture.
Is David Moyes too negative? 🤔
Everton have to get maximum points in these types of games if they’re to qualify for Europe, so it’s a really negative mindset from Moyes.
Merlin Rohl made a cameo appearance off the bench yesterday and here’s how fans reacted to his performance.

Everton fans not impressed by Merlin Rohl vs Burnley
Rohl made only his fifth Premier League appearance of the season against Burnley as he came on for the last 20 minutes.
Everton supporters took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to give their verdict on the summer signing, who joined from Freiburg.
It’s fair to say, they were far from impressed.
@Evertxn asked: “Merlin Rohl are you actually this c—?”
@MHS35406 added: “Another 15 million down the drain. Leaves on a free after a couple of German loan moves.”
“Wasted our money on Merlin Rohl didn’t we,” @EFCKyIe commented.
“He’s a defensive midfielder isn’t he? Looks lost further forward,” @somecallme2019 noted.
@MarkN1878 posted: “Can we stop asking for Rohl, Alcaraz, Dibling to start when everyone is fit, all 3 of them are s—-. Had a chance to show what they are about against Burnley and were c—.”
“That Rohl people going on about him, there’s a reason he’s on loan, useless,” @CallumMcKenna23 said.
Merlin Rohl will find his feet in a deeper role
Rohl came on to replace Carlos Alcaraz, and so he was forced to operate as an attacking midfielder in the number 10 role.
Quite clearly, that’s not his natural position, as he’s played as a number eight for the majority of his career.
What did you make of Tyler Dibling’s performance vs Burnley? 👏
He should have had an assist but Beto was not sharp enough to convert his cross 😫
So, it’s important to remain patient with Rohl and allow him to find his feet as a box-to-box midfielder, where he will be most effective.
Plus, Rohl is coming off the back of hernia surgery, so it’s impossible for him to be up to speed and fully match fit.
Rohl has been trying to adapt to a new country and culture, too, which isn’t easy, especially as quite a young player.
