Everton are pressing ahead with a deal to sign Hayden Hackney.
Hayden Hackney was just crowned the Championship Player of the Season after a standout campaign in midfield for Middlesbrough.
David Moyes is clearly eager to sign an Idrissa Gana Gueye replacement, as the veteran is out of contract at the end of the month.
What would you do with Idrissa Gana Gueye this summer? 😬
He's got a one-year extension clause in his deal…
So, Everton have evidently made Hackney their number one target, and the England under-21 international is eager to play under Moyes.
That said, we decided to ask our TalkingPoints users what they make of the potential £30m signing.

Everton fans react to potential Hayden Hackney signing
Replying to the TalkingPoint below, and on our Facebook page, Everton fans are really excited by the Hackney news.
How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩
However, there are a couple of supporters who have doubts over whether he’ll even get much game time under Moyes, given the Scotsman’s track record with young players.
- “He would suit that side perfectly, has the creativity to pull the strings and get the most out of Ndiaye and Dibling.”
- “An outstanding bit of business. A complete midfielder who will only get better.”
- “Hackney would be perfect for us and himself, a great combo, but I just read that Boro wanna keep him for the coming season and let him go on a free next season! We need to show the cash to the owners and let’s get it done NOW?”
- “Yesssss, this lad is class.”
- “He will be too young for Moyes. He’s after 30-plus-year-olds, so it would be a waste of money sitting on the bench.”
- “Don’t understand us signing an exciting 23-year-old, dinosaur Moyes won’t play him. Look at the young, exciting players we brought in 12 months ago, but they never play because it’s always the old guard.”
The concern is certainly valid, as Moyes hardly gave Tyler Dibling any game time at all last season, despite paying £40m for his signature.
It seems the younger players need to perform twice as well as the old guard to even get a sniff under the Everton manager.
So, Hackney will have to hit the ground running in pre-season and make a really good impression in the friendlies.
