Everton have a rich history of developing talent from the academy.
Wayne Rooney is a prime example of that whilst Jarrad Branthwaite, who polished his skillset with the under-21s after a switch from Carlisle United, is a current case.
Everton are excited about Harrison Armstrong and Roman Dixon – the two promising teenagers rising through the ranks at the minute.
Though, not all of their academy stars have made it and that’s unfortunately the case for Tom Davies, who burst onto the scene as a teenager.
The former England youth international was tipped to be the future of Everton’s midfield but that never materialised due to a number of reasons.
Davies, who has struggled with injuries, is now plying his trade at Sheffield United and after spending most of the season on the sidelines, he made only his second appearance against Sunderland on Friday and scored the winning goal.
Everton fans have reacted to that moment and they’re all saying the same thing.

Everton react to Tom Davies winner vs Sheffield United
It’s been a tough year or so for Tom Davies since he completed a free transfer to Sheffield United in the summer of 2023.
The 26-year-old has made just 11 appearances for the Blades in total as he’s been nursing a hamstring injury but he was able to make a huge impact off the bench on Friday, netting an 83rd-minute winner against promotion rivals Sunderland.
Everton fans reacted to the moment on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“This goal has made a lot of Toffees happy as well as Blades. Still a lot of love for Tom at Goodison. Well done Tom, well done Blades,” @blackrodblue said.
“This makes me happy,” @robbiethetoffee posted.
@_NateTweets said: “Tom finally getting the love he deserves.”
@Moo34242739Gary commented: “Great to see Tom enjoying it again, good luck for the rest of the season Blades.”
“Will always want Tom to do well,” @GoTheGameDontI added.
@chewter_sam said: “If there’s ever a player that deserves it, it’s Tom Davies; proper chuffed for him.”

Chris Wilder delighted for Davies
Speaking after the match, Chris Wilder heaped praise on Davies for his winning goal.
“It was a fabulous reward for all the hard work, blood sweat and tears that he’s gone through to get him on the pitch,” Wilder told the Yorkshire Post.
“He’s a fabulous footballer and it was fitting that he decided a tight game by getting the winner.”
Hopefully, this is the start of a fruitful career at Sheffield United for the former Everton midfielder, who is clearly still loved by supporters.
