Everton fans have come to the realisation they’d be nothing without one ‘terrific’ player

There is no denying that the last few years have been incredibly difficult for Everton.

Points deductions, PSR problems, poor backroom management and on-field performances have all been catalysts to recent events.

However, Everton have now turned over a new leaf as they enter the next era in their history. A move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium is on the horizon, but it could have easily been a Championship stadium had it not been for some good fortune in the last four seasons.

Now under new ownership, The Friedkin Group want to back Everton and restore the glory they once had. Reappointing David Moyes was the first step of the new era, a manager who knows what it means to be in charge of the club and what the fans expect from him and the players.

As a new era beckons, Everton fans have shared where they think the club would really be had it not been for one player.

Everton fans hail Jordan Pickford as a saviour for his goalkeeping heroics

Jordan Pickford has done a lot of maturing since signing for Everton in 2017. Joining for £30m from Sunderland, fans expected him to play at a high level from his first appearance, but he will honestly admit that it took him time to find his best form.

Referred to as “terrific” by Moyes, Pickford is still one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and has little to worry about regarding his future as England’s number one.

Jamie Carragher named Pickford as Everton’s Player of The Season, but fans are adamant they would not be where they are today.

In response to the tweet from above, fans shared where they honestly think Everton would be now without Pickford.

“His career at Everton is in 2 halves for me. An erratic, unreliable liability in goal 2017 to 2021. Post Anfield COVID derby onwards his mentality improved and he’s matured. His real strength for me is as a reactive shot-stopper. Needs Branthwaite/Tarkowski dominating aerially.” said one fan, while another added: “They say Yankee Stadium is the house that Babe Ruth built. Bramley Moore is the Stadium that Pickford built. They should have a statue outside it to him.”

This Everton fan also suggested they could have been in League One, saying: “Given the fine margins in 21/22 and 22/23, then certainly the Championship. Frankly, given the chaos around the club, one relegation could have easily have lead to another.”

“Probably no longer in existence. Relegation a few years back l would’ve killed the club in my opinion.” said this thankful Everton fan.

Another fan added: “Championship at least once.”

Finally, this fan said: “League One, I might get pelters for this and of course I think Nev is the greatest ever, but he won us trophies, I genuinely think Pickford may have saved the club.”

Jordan Pickford spotted with Everton target John Stones

Now the Premier League season is over, Pickford has gone off with the England squad for international duty.

The Everton captain is likely to start in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the Three Lions’ friendlies against Andorra and Senegal. However, some Everton fans will hope that Pickford is on double duty working as an agent as well as a player.

Everton are interested in signing John Stones this summer, with the future of young defender Jarrad Branthwaite looking unclear. Everton fans are desperate to sign Stones, with some even believing he is still world-class.

Pickford was spotted alongside Stones at the Formula One, where the players were enjoying the race alongside each other before moving on to match preparations.

With the pair linking up, and Stones’ future looking like it will be away from Manchester City next season, Pickford could act as a middleman and convince the 31-year-old to rejoin the Toffees after leaving in 2016.
