Jamie Carragher makes his pick for Everton’s player of the season

Everton have certainly endured a turbulent season which has ended a lot better than it started.

David Moyes landed back on Merseyside in January and has been able to rescue the Toffees from what was a dire start to the campaign.

Under Sean Dyche, Everton looked destined for another relegation battle deep into the final weeks of the term.

However, the 62-year-old has been able to turn things around with some much-improved form.

There have been some standout performers this season with the likes of James Tarkowski playing a consistent role in Everton’s backline.

Jake O’Brien has been hailed for his performances under Moyes after being snubbed by Dyche.

But Jamie Carragher thinks there is another player who has been a real shining light in the Everton side throughout the entirety of the 2024/25 season.

Jamie Carragher names Everton’s player of the season

Recently, Carragher praised Everton’s appointment of Moyes and even suggested West Ham fans will be envious after they chose Graham Potter instead.

It has been a strange season for the Toffees who are now set to move to their new stadium over the summer.

Speaking to GOAL, Carragher did not hesitate when sharing his answer for who has been Everton’s best player this season.

The former Liverpool defender chose Jordan Pickford as his standout performer from the Everton side.

England’s number one has been a consistent figure in Everton’s starting XI for years now and he continues to set the example at the back for the Blues.

Everton have maintained another solid defensive record this term and Pickford has been praised for his showings.

Ironically, Carragher’s favourite-ever Everton player Neville Southall criticised Pickford earlier in the season in a truly bizarre rant.

Jordan Pickford does not the praise he deserves

Following some difficult years on Merseyside for the club, Pickford has been one of the constants in the side helping to keep the club up.

Moyes has suggested Pickford goes under the radar in the conversation of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

But he has been able to keep the joint-third-most clean sheets of any goalkeeper across the division.

And the lack of recognition may come as a result of bizarre criticism which was seen over the weekend as Tim Sherwood slammed Pickford for Chelsea’s goal.

One thing that is certain is the love Pickford has from Everton fans and he will be one of the most important figures to lead them into Bramley-Moore Dock.
