Everton are being linked with a move to sign Tomas Soucek from West Ham United.
This week, it has been reported that David Moyes remains keen on Soucek, having shown an interest in the Hammers midfielder last summer.
Soucek is thought to be open to a new challenge, with his West Ham contract due to expire next summer.
Everton being linked to Soucek again… thoughts? 💭
That said, Everton fans have given their verdict on the potential signing on TalkingPoints and on our Facebook page.
Everton fans think Tomas Soucek is too old
Soucek celebrated his 31st birthday last month, so he is coming towards the end of his prime years as a footballer.
That has concerned Toffees supporters, as they feel the club should be looking to recruit a younger option in midfield.
- “We need young players now, not old players.”
- “Too late by a couple of years. Good player though.”
- “Bowen yes, Soucek no.”
- “No chance. Too old.”
- “This is Moyes for you, buying old players instead of trusting youth.”
- “Give up… (we need) a centre-forward.”
Everton fans have been frustrated with Moyes’ persistence in playing experienced players at the expense of promising young talent.
Soucek could be another player who blocks the development of young players, so it’ll be interesting to see how this approach goes down with the Friedkin Group as time goes on.
The Everton owners are keen to recruit young talent and drive down the average age of the squad, which is one of the oldest in the Premier League.
Will TFG have to move away from Moyes to achieve their recruitment model? 😬
They forked out substantial funds on Tyler Dibling (£40m), Merlin Rohl (obligation to buy £17m) and Adam Aznou (£8m) last summer, and yet they’ve barely been given a chance.
Aznou appears to be unhappy with his situation at the club, having deleted all of his Everton photos on Instagram.
