Everton fans will always remember the sour manner in which Anthony Gordon left for Newcastle back in January 2023.

The England international refused to turn up for training at Finch Farm for several days before finally sealing his £40m move to Tyneside.

Newcastle fans laughed and revelled in the glee of taking Gordon away from the Toffees, but Everton now look set to get the last laugh as Eddie Howe confirms the Liverpudlian is set to leave – a development which will also send millions of pounds to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Sunday marks the final home game of the season for Everton! 😳

Eddie Howe admits Anthony Gordon is looking to leave Newcastle

Speaking in his press conference ahead of a clash against West Ham on Sunday, Howe said (via the Telegraph): “When you get to this stage of the season, part of what we will be doing [is] looking to next year. So, yeah [there are doubts about Gordon’s future]. Anthony’s just come back from injury. The team has played well in his absence and [he’s not playing] with a partial view to the future, yes.

“There are discussions that are potentially happening [on Gordon’s future] but not with me.”

Gordon has already agreed terms with Bayern Munich as Newcastle hold out for a sum of at least £75m for the 25-year-old.

Everton negotiated a clause which entitles them to 15% of the profit on that initial £40m investment should Newcastle sell the attacker, meaning the Toffees are set to bank £5.25m if a £75m sale materialises.

Newcastle have endured a difficult season, currently sitting 13th after recently suffering four Premier League defeats in a row.

Like he did at Goodison Park, Gordon is trying to jump ship as soon as things get a bit difficult, something Everton fans warned the Toon Army about after his exit happened in January 2023.

Does Kevin Thelwell deserve more credit for this? 👏

We tried to tell them… 🤷‍♂️

At least in this instance, Everton fans can sit back and enjoy watching the saga – which could turn messy – safe in the knowledge that any agreement materialising will come with a financial boost for The Friedkin Group.
