Everton have endured a really tough few years.

The Toffees have had to contend with multiple relegation battles as they’ve fallen victim to financial troubles.

Everton’s PSR breach last term saw them deducted eight points and sandwiched between that have been a number of low-spending transfer windows.

The days of spending big at Goodison Park are a distant memory, with the club having to operate on a shoestring budget at times.

Take the 2021 summer for example, Everton spent just £1.2m, with four free transfers making up the majority of their business.

With all that said, it’s little surprise Everton are top of the charts for one quite staggering statistic.

It has just come to light, that Everton are the only club in the Premier League to have made a profit in the transfer market over the last five years.

Whilst that’s evidently not a bad thing for the club on a financial basis, it does show the lack of investment in the squad.

So it’s hardly surprising Everton have been on a steep decline ever since Carlo Ancelotti’s departure in 2021.

The arrival of the Friedkin Group will likely see that number change as they have massive ambitions for the Toffees.

Everton will have to be stringent this month

Whilst the long-term plan is to get Everton back to fighting for Europe and with that will come great investment in the squad, there are still financial restrictions in the immediate future.

Everton aren’t out of the woods yet regarding PSR, so they’re expected to sell to buy this month in order to sign their desired targets.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be sold to West Ham to raise funds whilst Beto will likely demand a pretty decent fee if he does complete a move back to the Serie A.

It’s believed Ernest Nuamah is close to signing for Everton, so that will undoubtedly see players offloaded over the next couple of weeks.
