Everton are looking for some reassurances from Lyon before making their opening bid for winger Ernest Nuamah.
The Toffees require some serious turn around when it comes to their output going forward.
Only Southampton have scored fewer than Everton this season in what has been a real struggle for the Everton attack.
David Moyes has warned his players to improve their performances with the Blues sitting narrowly above the drop zone.
But The Friedkin Group want to sign two players for Everton in January, with a new forward and midfielder on their radar.
The Toffees have players in mind, but they are looking for some reassurances before making their interest official in the form of a bid.

Everton want Ernest Nuamah reassurance from John Textor
With a new forward on the radar, Everton are showing interest in Ernest Nuamah from Lyon.
There have been various reports suggesting the Toffees are close to securing an agreement for the 21-year-old winger.
However, TeamTalk have now reported Everton will only submit their first bid for Nuamah if John Textor assures Lyon will allow him to leave.
The Toffees are said to be against the notion of ‘bidding blind’ on the winger.
Just a matter of months on from his failed move to the Premier League, the Ligue 1 side are said to value Nuamah in the region of €25m-€30m (£21m-£25m).
Textor has already praised Nuamah as a valuable player having pushed for the player to leave last summer.
However, it will be interesting to see whether Textor would be keen to deal with Everton after his takeover saga.

The attacking output simply has not been good enough for Everton, with the Toffees only finding the back of the net 15 times in their 19 games.
Moyes has already spoken to Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he looks towards the striker for inspiration up front.
But there could still be movement in the window affecting Everton’s attack.
Calvert-Lewin is receiving interest from abroad this month as he is yet to commit his future to Everton beyond this season.
The Toffees will be hoping to address their long-term plans, but for now, Everton need goals to ensure their Premier League status.
