Kevin Thelwell will be departing Everton, but the Director of Football must be ruing the missed opportunities from the transfer market.
Thelwell is set to leave Everton at the end of the season, as the Friedkin Group will now be put to the test to find the right replacement.
Everton are keen on Dan Ashworth as the Toffees are seeking experience to fill the role that Thelwell has done okay with.
He’s had his ups and downs, but Thelwell’s move for Carlos Alcaraz was genius, but this doesn’t cover up for some of his mistakes.
A player the Blues should’ve signed in the summer is now proving exactly why, in a real blunder from the Everton chief.

Yankuba Minteh wanted to join Everton in the summer, now shining for Brighton
This can’t discredit the players he’s brought in, as like Alcaraz, Thelwell’s business for Iliman Ndiaye was exceptional.
But the Toffees Director definitely missed a trick in not signing Yankuba Minteh.
Minteh has fired on all cylinders since making the £30m switch to Brigton from Newcastle United.
This was proven at Newcastle’s dismay when the 20-year-old winger played his part in knocking out the Magpies in the FA Cup, scoring just before half-time.
Brighton have the Gambian international now, but Thelwell and Everton had every right to pursue the youngster who was eyeing a move to Merseyside.
Fabrizio Romano reported in June that Minteh gave priority to Everton as his ‘favorite destination’ as he had a desire to play in the Premier League.
This desire came true, but not for the Toffees, and now Fabian Hurzeler is reaping the rewards of signing him for a decent fee.

How Minteh has compared to Everton’s creative exploits
It’s hard to say Ndiaye has failed at Everton this season when he has performed well for David Moyes’ side.
But Thelwell’s loan signings of Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom haven’t gone down too well with Evertonians.
The jury is still out on Alcaraz, who has made a fairly positive start, but when you compare Minteh to Everton’s current flock in the Premier League, the Gambian prevails.
| Yankuba Minteh | Illiman Ndiaye | Jesper Lindstrom | Jack Harrison | |
| Games played | 22 | 24 | 23 | 23 |
| Goals | 5 | 6 | 0 | 0 |
| Assists | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Chances created | 20 | 16 | 17 | 22 |
| Dribble success % | 52.2% | 50.9% | 20.5% | 36% |
| Touches in opposition box | 100 | 70 | 41 | 51 |
Everton were impressed with Minteh, and that impression should’ve been enough to pay the £30m fee.
Whoever replaces Thelwell will have to hope another transfer blunder like this doesn’t creep up again.
