The rearranged Merseyside derby is here as Everton face Liverpool at Goodison Park for the final time.

David Moyes has enjoyed a fine start on his return to the Toffees so far but this will be his biggest test as he faces the Premier League leaders.

Everton were supposed to meet their fierce rivals back in December, however, severe weather meant the game was postponed.

Carlos Alcaraz impressed on his debut in the Toffees’ FA Cup loss at the weekend and will be in contention to feature on a game that could have huge implications at both end of the table.

Whilst survival wouldn’t be officially guaranteed, three points for Moyes and co could provide plenty of breathing room between themselves and the bottom three.

As well as bragging rights too, it would also see Everton achieve something for the first time in over 40 years.

Everton could win back-to-back league games against Liverpool for first time since 1984/85 season

For most Everton fans over the years, the Merseyside derby has been one that has ended in disappointment.

But, in their last meeting back in April the hosts all-but-ended Liverpool’s title hopes with a 2-0 win.

Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin earned Everton a first derby day victory at home since October 2010.

Another victory on Wednesday night would mean they have won consecutive games against the red half of Merseyside in over 40 years and only boost the atmosphere around the club right now.

Arne Slot’s men will go nine points clear at the top of the table if they win and if Everton were to halt their charge, or even playing a role in derailing them, back-to-back wins would certainly do it.

Everton’s H2H record against Liverpool is bad news for Toffees

As with any derby, the odds are stacked against Everton.

Moyes has made a strong start on his return to the club but this will be his toughest challenge yet by some distance.

Both teams have met over 200 times throughout the course of history but sadly, for Everton, it’s Liverpool have been more successful.

Everton vs Liverpool H2H record

Although Everton won the last meeting between the two, it doesn’t play down the fact that they’ve been the second best.

Since the October 2010 win, the Toffees have only won once and that was at Anfield in 2020 under Carlo Ancelotti.

One thing for sure is that every player must be at their absolute to claim a famous win on what is bound to be a memorable night at Goodison Park.
