A round-up of the latest Everton news as Premier League chief Richard Masters offers 777 Partners a possible timeframe for the Miami-based group’s takeover of the Blues.

Premier League chief Masters discusses 777 Partners’ Everton takeover

Speaking in front of MPs this Tuesday, Premier League chief executive Masters clarified that it hopes to resolve 777 Partners’ proposed takeover of Everton in a matter of weeks. But its decision may still take a while yet if the Premier League disproves of 777 Partners’ accounts.

The Premier League is still currently studying 777 Partners’ books as the US-based capital investment company looks to become the new owners of Everton. Farhad Moshiri agreed to sell his 94.1% stake in the Goodison Park club in September. But it is still subject to approval.

The Premier League modified its owners’ and directors’ test in March 2023 to make it harder for proposed new owners. But its assessment of 777 Partners’ books is proving to be a long, drawn-out affair for Everton. Yet Masters says its verdict will come when the league is ready.

“As soon as we have completed the process,” Masters explained, via quotes by Paul Brown. “If we haven’t had satisfactory answers to the questions we have asked, it takes a lot longer. This has gone on for a number of weeks. It’s going to take longer. Hopefully, weeks.”

777 Partners are ‘pessimistic’ about getting the Premier League’s approval

777 Partners are now ‘pessimistic’ for their hopes of completing a takeover of Everton. That is according to Brown, who reports that insiders at the US-based investment company sense the Premier League is unlikely to approve their finances and purchase of the Goodison club.

The Miami outfit continue to put on an image of confidence in the public that they will buy Moshiri’s shares. But 777 Partners are increasingly doubtful that they will be Everton’s new owners. Questions are also now starting to grow over the company’s continued investment.

Brown adds that financing Everton is putting quite a big strain on 777 Partners’ accounts. So, the group are extremely keen to learn the Premier League’s decision so they can better plan for the future. But the feeling now is that Moshiri will need to go elsewhere to land a buyer.

Maguire feels Dyche is in an ‘awkward’ transfer spot after Everton’s FFP breach

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has exclusively told Everton News that Sean Dyche is in an ‘awkward’ position. He believes the Blues boss now faces a tricky sell trying to get any targets to make transfers in January after the Premier League charged the club this Monday.

The Premier League has charged Everton with a second breach of its profit and sustainability rules in successive seasons. It also charged Nottingham Forest on Monday with exceeding its limit of £105m losses over a three-year period. Both clubs also agreed they are in breach.

Everton received a 10-point deduction in November for their previous charge relating to the end of the 2021/22 season. A second penalty of the same severity may again jeopardise the club’s chances of avoiding relegation. Everton currently sit in 17th place through 21 fixtures.

A 10-point penalty would drop Everton – who are still appealing their previous charge – into the drop zone and last place. Nottingham Forest would also fall to 18th place, with Sheffield United splitting the two clubs in 19th. The Blades are currently last with nine points to date.

But the immediate concern for Maguire is how Dyche can convince Everton’s targets to seal transfers in January. He believes the Blues are in an ‘awkward’ position given they might not know until near the end of the 2023/24 campaign which division they will be in next season.
