Everton just opened talks to sign a player who mocked the Toffees in 2024

Everton unfortunately have a number of players who are not too popular amongst the fanbase.

Many Everton fans were delighted when it looked like Dwight McNeil was heading to Crystal Palace in February – considering the Englishman is yet to score in 25 appearances this season, with only one assist to show for his efforts.

Thierno Barry is not too popular either, with Everton supporters recently voting the Frenchman as the player they would most like to see sold this summer.

Therefore, the last thing David Moyes needs is another player who splits the fanbase, but that could soon happen after Everton made an approach to sign Neco Williams from Nottingham Forest.

Sunday marks the final home game of the season for Everton! 😳

Neco Williams aimed a dig at Everton in December 2024

After Nottingham Forest secured a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park in December 2024, the Wales international seemed to aim a dig at the Toffees and reference his association with rivals Liverpool.

Williams posted on X (previously known as Twitter): “Last game in 2024 at Goodison, felt lovelyyy getting 3pts and a clean sheet there 👀 You Reds enjoy your new year 😉❤️.”

Of course, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest are both known as the Reds. However, the use of the eyes emoji and the winking emoji led many – including the Liverpool Echo – to believe this was a dig at Everton, considering the Welshman spent 15 years at Anfield before moving to Nottingham Forest in 2022.

So, if a summer move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium materialises for Williams, he would be wise to keep his head down and make a strong first impression, or else Everton fans will surely start to point the finger at him given his connection to Liverpool.

Ultimately, the approach for a new left-back raises further question marks over why Everton spent £8m to sign Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich last summer.

What would YOU do with Adam Aznou in the summer? 🤷‍♂️

The Morocco international has not been given a single second of Premier League football despite impressing in the FA Cup against Sunderland, and would surely be set for a departure if Everton added another competitor for places in the left-back department along with Vitalii Mykolenko.
