David Moyes has made a centre-forward a top priority for Everton.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to leave Finch Farm upon the expiry of his contract, and Armando Broja already back at Chelsea, Everton certainly have work to do up top.

Nick Woltemade emerged as an Everton target at the start of the window, but it’s become apparent that he’s out of reach.

Woltemade is expected to join Bayern Munich after his sensational performances at the under-21s European Championships.

David Moyes has quickly turned his attention to Thierno Barry, and now we can exclusively reveal the latest developments on that potential transfer.

Everton confident of reaching agreement to sign Thierno Barry

Graeme Bailey has been speaking exclusively to Everton News and has revealed that the club are confident of agreeing a deal to sign Barry.

“Everton are working on a deal with the player – the main thing here is that they need to agree terms with Barry and his team.

“Persuading him to make the move to Merseyside is the main thing – he has a lot of interest around Europe but Everton are confident, they have put forward their project and they are confident an agreement will be reached.

“Now the under-21s Euros is over – Everton want to get this one over the line – he has emerged as their first-choice striker target.

“He has a release clause – Everton are willing to pay, but will talk with Villarreal about payments when they get the green light from the player’s side.”

Barry stats 2024/25

Barry actually started the season at Swiss side Basel last year before completing an £11.5m move to Villarreal.

Across both clubs, the France under-21 international notched an impressive 19 goals.

Barry’s underlying data is also really encouraging, as he ranks in the top 14 per cent for aerial duels won compared to his positional peers across Europe, according to FBref data.

That ability in the air will certainly lend itself well to a Moyes side that likes to get down the flanks and deliver crosses.
