Everton now in talks to sign player Crystal Palace sold for £20m

Everton have made a bold move in the transfer market after approaching Atletico Madrid to discuss Alexander Sorloth.

Matteo Moretto – one of the most respected journalists in Spain – is now claiming that Everton have opened talks to sign the Norway international, who memorably struggled at Crystal Palace before the Eagles sold him to RB Leipzig in September 2020 for £20m.

The response from Atletico Madrid was actually quite encouraging, although the Norwegian himself is not too keen on a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Atletico Madrid name price for Alexander Sorloth after Everton enquire

Moretto believes Atletico Madrid are open to selling Sorloth – who Erling Haaland admires – and told Everton they would entertain a bid of €30m (£26m).

That seems affordable for The Friedkin Group, who have already spent more than that sum to sign Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

However, Moretto adds that Sorloth himself is not interested in joining Everton at this moment in time, so the Toffees will have to make a concerted effort to convince the 30-year-old in order for this deal to progress.

The former Trabzonspor striker has enjoyed a strong season under Diego Simeone, netting 20 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions.

Sorloth – who some Everton fans do not want – also netted 24 goals in 53 games for Atletico Madrid last season, and 26 goals in 41 appearances for Villarreal in the 2023/24 campaign, so he is by no means a flash in the pan.

Everton should, however, have concerns over his ability to replicate this form in England, where he only scored once in 20 games for Crystal Palace before finding success overseas.

With only 24 months left on his contract – and the fact he turns 31 in December – Atletico Madrid are probably more wary of getting a good fee for Sorloth before his value decreases, rather than it being a case of the Spanish giants not rating him.

Remember him at Crystal Palace… would you like to see Sorloth at the Hill Dickinson Stadium? 👀
