Everton desperately need to improve the squad this winter.
The shortcomings of this side were there for David Moyes and all inside the Hill Dickinson Stadium to see on Sunday as Brentford bullied the Toffees, netting three goals inside 51 minutes to inflict a second consecutive home defeat on Everton.
In the aftermath of that 4-2 loss, Everton are now looking to bolster the midfield department with a swoop for a player likened to Casemiro and Gennaro Gattuso in Edoardo Bove, according to Il Messaggero.
Everton could sign the new Casemiro in Edoardo Bove
The Italian news outlet believe Everton have made an approach to the 23-year-old as he prepares to wave farewell to Roma.
If you are David Moyes, who are you starting alongside James Garner vs Wolves? 🤨
Surely Armstrong gets his start!
Bove sadly suffered a cardiac arrest while on loan at Fiorentina last season, meaning he must play with a pacemaker – a device which footballers are not allowed to have in Serie A.
With a contract running until July 2028, the Italian therefore needs to find a new club, or else he will have to sit on the sidelines for over two years.
Il Messaggero believe Everton – who also like Guela Doue – have come forward to offer Bove a solution, as the central midfielder discusses the termination of his contract with Roma.
Should a deal happen, Moyes would secure himself a real terrier in the middle of the park, one who Chiesa Di Totti – an outlet focused on young talents at Roma – liken to Casemiro in terms of playing style.
Everton could also get the new Gennaro Gattuso
Chiesa Di Totti interestingly compare Bove – who Jose Mourinho adores – to Gennaro Gattuso, as well as Daniele De Rossi.
The outlet describe the Everton target as a “win at all costs type of player” who also has a “tireless work rate” – adding that he also possesses the technical ability to make it hard for opponents to get the ball back off him.
Of course, Everton fans will question how quickly Bove can adapt to Premier League football, having failed to play a single second of action this season.
What do you make to that Everton fans? 😒
However, supporters must remember how impressive Christian Eriksen was after the Dane had to leave Inter Milan for Brentford in January 2022 – due to a cardiac arrest of his own.
The Denmark international later sealed a switch to Manchester United, so if Bove can bounce back even half as quickly as that, Everton taking him on a free transfer could prove to be a smart move.
