Everton prove Fabrizio Romano completely wrong and are close to deal to sign £15m player

Everton, it seemed, were set to lose out on one of their top targets for deadline day until just minutes ago.

Such is the ever-changing nature of this remarkable day, the Toffees seemed poised to close the window having welcomed just one new face to Goodison Park in the last 24 hours.

However, against all the odds, after it seemed like Fulham were set to sign Ernest Nuamah for just £15m, the opposite could in fact be set to occur.

What’s the latest on Everton target Ernest Nuamah’s future?

This has been a confusing one to detail, but this is the very latest on Ernest Nuamah’s imminent future.

First, it was Fabrizio Romano who offered his thoughts on the matter, speaking on his live stream to note: ‘Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to sign Ernest Nuamah.

‘The winger of Lyon. He was on the list of Everton, wanted by Fulham, Fulham are still there. Now Forest are close to reaching an agreement with Lyon. Nottingham Forest and Lyon are working on that, but an agreement with the player has not been reached for Nottingham Forest, so let’s see what happens with that one.’

This all seemed tied up, but that was until The Bobble, a revered transfer source on Merseyside, threw a spanner into the works: ‘Everton are in talks for Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah,’ he wrote on X.

That notion has since been confirmed by journalist Santi Aouna, who has now boldly gone against the infamous Italian reporter: ‘Agreement reached between Ernest Nuamah and Everton.

‘But some details need to be sorted out before the Ghanaian winger leaves.’

Never a dull day with Everton

It has been a true roller coaster of a day for the Toffees, who have been linked with so many but thus far have only confirmed one.

Orel Mangala is now an Everton player, but that was a foregone conclusion before deadline day had even begun.

What was not was their pursuit of a winger and a full-back, both of which were positions of paramount importance to Sean Dyche.

And whilst the latter could still go untouched, the former now seems poised to finally be tied up, with Nuamah making Romano look foolish by seemingly opting for Everton.
