Everton need to think long and hard over whether they want to move for Raul Jimenez.

With the summer transfer window approaching, Everton will be looking at how they can improve at the striker position.

It is believed Everton hold an interest in Jimenez, who has played his football under former Everton boss Marco Silva.

As the Mexican’s contract is set to expire in the coming weeks, Everton need to avoid signing another striker who cannot provide them with a double figure return.

The Toffees are not alone, with Mexican Club America also believed to be aware of the striker’s situation ahead of the summer.

A potential free agent signing seemingly appeals to Everton, but the Toffees must be aiming for better when the market opens for business.

Everton must aim higher in the striker market this summer

Beto and Thierno Barry have endured turbulent campaigns on Merseyside, with the pair currently battling it out for the starting spot.

Everton supporters still feel Barry needs to be replaced this summer despite his two goals against Manchester City on Monday

Whether Jimenez is an upgrade on either of these players can be left up for debate, but at the age of 35, it is a signing that Everton should be running a mile from.

With three games remaining this season, Jimenez has not scored more than 12 goals in any of his last six Premier League campaigns.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall admitted Everton need a 15-goal striker just like Igor Thiago at Brentford, who has actually scored 22 in the league alone.

“Look at Brentford’s striker this season, the amount of goals he’s scored, and that is unbelievable for a team that is not expected to finish high,” said Dewsbury-Hall.

Jimenez is certainly not that player.

Even as a backup option, there would likely be a lot of hesitancy from the supporters on Merseyside over bringing in the Mexican.

The Blues have shown this season they can push for Europe, but they may require a striker in the summer who can push them over the line.

Signing a striker who currently has one more goal than both Barry and Beto would not seem like the man for the job.
