A round-up of the latest Everton news as Sean Dyche fights Nottingham Forest for the last-ditch transfer of a winger and informs Michael Keane he can leave Goodison Park.

Everton tell Michael Keane he can agree a last-gasp transfer away

The Toffees have told Keane that he can leave Everton in the final days of the winter transfer window. That is according to i News, which reports that the only activity at Goodison Park in the coming days is likely to be for players on the fringes of Dyche’s team, if they receive bids.

Everton do not need to sell any players before Dyche can invest in the last stages of the mid-season market. So, the Toffees are not planning a fire sale following their second charge for a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) earlier on this January.

But Everton are mindful of their budget, so are unlikely to fund a big outlay before Thursday night’s deadline. Toffees chiefs have also informed Keane that he can leave Merseyside after 210 appearances for 13 goals and nine assists in six-and-a-half years if they receive an offer.

Keane, who Dyche called a ‘very good’ player last May, has only made 10 of his appearances so far this season. Dyche’s old Burnley enforcer has further only started in seven games and has played just 672 minutes in all competitions. He has played 402 minutes in the top-flight.

Everton will learn the verdict of their PSR points deduction appeal in February

The Premier League will confirm the verdict for Everton’s appeal into the 10-point deduction for the Blues’ first breach of PSR in February. That is according to Alan Myers, who adds that proceedings will commence on Wednesday, January 31 and they will only run for three days.

Everton intend to defend their case vigorously after an independent commission docked the club 10 points in November. The Premier League had initially charged the club with a breach of PSR last March. Everton made losses of £124.5m over the 2019/20 to 2021/22 seasons.

Premier League clubs are only allowed to register losses of up to £105m over a three-season period. Everton also breached the threshold between 2020/21 and 2022/23. But the Toffees should now learn the verdict of their appeal regarding their first PSR charge in mid-February.

Marseille winger Ismaila Sarr is meriting late-window interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest. That is according to Football Transfers, which reports that Villarreal are also studying a last-ditch transfer for the 25-year-old, who only quit Watford to sign with OM last summer.

Everton have followed Sarr’s performances in France closely and now hope to secure a loan transfer with Marseille. The Toffees would also hope to include an option to buy. But OM are more inclined to sell their Senegal ace for £13m after four goals and two assists in 21 games.

Marseille’s preference to sell Sarr has allowed Nottingham Forest and Villarreal to pull ahead of Everton in the transfer race. The 57-cap dynamo has only started 11 of his appearances at the Stade Velodrome. So, OM are happy to sell Sarr, despite giving him a contract until 2028.
