Everton currently reside in 15th place, just one point above the drop zone, heading into an incredibly difficult run of fixtures up till mid-January.

Sean Dyche’s men have failed to score in each of their last three games and that’s an area which could really prove costly.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have netted a combined three goals in the Premier League this season – which just simply isn’t good enough.

And yet, their relegation rivals are now thriving with a player who Frank Lampard could’ve signed for the club in 2022.

Everton wanted Matheus Cunha in 2022

Wolves maverick Matheus Cunha has arguably been the most in-form player in the Premier League this season.

Cunha has netted seven times whilst laying on three assists in 12 games so far, despite operating in a struggling side.

The Brazilian was at the double on the weekend against Fulham and both were goals of the very highest order.

So with that said, it makes it all the more painful that Everton actually wanted to sign Cunha in 2022. Unfortunately, the club’s hierarchy couldn’t sanction the deal due to finance.

Now, it looks as though the 25-year-old is set to fire Wolves out of the relegation picture and it won’t be long until they surpass Everton with the way they’ve performed of late.

Everton need to sign a Cunha-esque player in January

Everton are in desperate need of a maverick like Cunha who’s going to score the goals needed to survive relegation.

Whilst Iliman Ndiaye has impressed, he just isn’t finding the goals and perhaps that’s due to Dyche’s pragmaticism.

Either way, The Toffees should dip into the January transfer window and sign a goalscoring playmaker to supplement the attack.

Perhaps Norwich City’s Borja Sainz, who’s the leading goalscorer in the Championship, could be an option.
