Everton have delayed the loan departure of Tom Cannon.

That’s according to journalist Alan Nixon, who has reported that the striker will remain at the club until the Toffees have brought in two new attackers.

Cannon enjoyed a hugely successful six-month loan spell with Preston North End last season as he netted eight goals.

The 20-year-old now looks set to enjoy another loan move to the Championship and has a long list of suitors chasing his signature.

Everton will reportedly demand a £1 million fee for his exit and it was believed that the Lilywhites were in pole position to re-sign him.

While Nixon previously reported that a decision would be made on Cannon’s next club today, he has now claimed that his departure will have to wait until more additions have been made by Sean Dyche’s side.

Everton are closing in on a £17 million deal for Youssef Chermiti, with the young striker’s medical scheduled for early this week.

Cannon would then be relying on the Toffees recruiting one more forward before he can leave, meaning he could earn his move to the Championship over the next couple of weeks.

Preston North End remain favourites to sign Everton’s Tom Cannon

Preston North End got plenty of success out of a rather inexperienced Tom Cannon last season and seems like the ideal place to send him to progress further.

If the Lilywhites are also willing to pay the £1m loan fee then it seems hugely beneficial for all parties to let the 20-year-old return to Deepdale for a whole season.

However, there are still a number of clubs including Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City that have all shown interest, while there is still plenty of time for Everton to change their mind over his next destination.
