Following his performances at the World Cup, it looked as if a move to Everton for Djed Spence may have been off the cards.
In England’s semi-final against Argentina, the Tottenham Hotspur full-back was arguably the player of the match for the Three Lions.
Everton’s interest in Spence was facing an uphill challenge after Serie A champions Inter Milan entered the frame to sign the defender.
After watching him for England vs Croatia, I’m convinced he’d be the perfect right-back signing this summer! 🔥
David Moyes has been keen to sign a right-back ever since he returned to Merseyside back at the start of 2025.
Spence’s stock has risen due to his impressive performances under Thomas Tuchel over recent weeks.
However, there may well be some hope for the Blues after a recent development, which will likely have an impact on Spence’s future.

Inter Milan eye Djed Spence alternative in boost for Everton
It has now been suggested by Corriere dello Sport that Inter are expected to step away from negotiations for Spence this summer.
The Italian champions look set to make their move for Givairo Read of Feyenoord as an alternative.
This comes down to the price tag being put on Spence by Spurs, with the north London side looking to secure upwards of £30m.
Tottenham’s price tag is said to be a ‘major obstacle’ for the Italian outfit this summer.
Everton handed Spence opportunity but it’ll come at a cost
Spence only got better as the World Cup went on, with his performance against Argentina silencing a lot of critics.
However, that has done Tottenham’s valuation of the defender no harm at all, with the north London side looking for in excess of £30m.
Although Everton are in a much better position than they were in years gone by, it is no secret that the Toffees do not have a huge amount of money to spend.
Just focusing on Everton’s right-back search, who should the club bring in this summer and why? 🤔
From Spence, to White, to Norton-Cuffy, there have been links to so many players so far…
Pushing the boat out to sign a £30m full-back could see a lot of the remaining budget used up on one player, but it is in a position where Everton are desperate to strengthen.
It has been suggested that Spence wants to play for a Champions League side, which would naturally rule Everton out of the running.
If his proposed move to Inter does fall through, then the defender may have to open his mind to other opportunities, with Spurs keen to sell.
Something that should also be taken into consideration is that although Spence was a natural right-back, the defender now prefers to play on the other side of the defence.
Throughout the 2025/26 season, and even at the World Cup, Spence featured predominantly as a left-back.
| 2025/26 Premier League | Appearances |
| Left-back | 22 |
| Right-back | 4 |
| Right-wing | 2 |
| Left-wing | 2 |
Now, he could prove a solid upgrade on Vitalii Mykolenko, but Everton need to focus on signing a player to fill in at right-back.
Everton also hold an interest in Guela Doue, who is expected to cost a similar amount to Spence.
Pre-season gets firmly underway on Saturday as Everton face their first friendly game, which should be piling the pressure on the Blues to sign a new right-back.
Any move for Spence would not see the defender join up for weeks as England end their World Cup tournament on Saturday evening.
