Everton’s first few fixtures are a nightmare for David Moyes, and nobody is talking about it

Friday saw the 2026/27 Premier League fixtures drop, with Everton learning their key dates for the upcoming campaign.

Improvement is going to be needed from David Moyes’ side after a disastrous end to the 2025/26 term saw Everton go their final seven games without a victory.

A strong summer transfer window will be needed by Angus Kinnear and the recruitment staff on Merseyside.

With the fixtures now available for all to see, there is a clear trend of facing newly-appointed managers in Everton’s opening five games that could prove a nightmare for the 63-year-old.

Everton set for tricky start against newly-appointed managers

The ‘new manager bounce’ is a phrase commonly used in football and there is certainly some substance to it.

The Premier League revealed there is typically a 41 per cent uplift in results upon the arrival of a new manager.

Everton saw it first hand last year after they replaced Sean Dyche with Moyes, who turned around the dreadful 2024/25 campaign on Merseyside.

This is another factor that the Toffees are going to have to navigate during their opening five games of the season.

Crystal Palace – Pierre Sage

Everton open the 2026/27 season against Crystal Palace, who appointed Pierre Sage just a matter of days ago as their new manager.

The Eagles will enter the new season as the reigning Europa Conference League champions, which also secured them Europa League qualification.

Oliver Glasner has left big boots to fill at Selhurst Park, but the Toffees do hold a sensational record against Palace.

Bournemouth – Marco Rose

There were plenty of Everton fans wanting Andoni Iraola to replace Moyes over the summer, yet it was Liverpool who snapped up the Spaniard.

Again, Iraola will leave big boots to fill on the South Coast, but the Cherries have landed an established manager in Rose.

The German has a strong track record in the Bundesliga having previously managed Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.

Manchester United – Michael Carrick

Although Michael Carrick was the Manchester United manager last time Everton played the Red Devils, he has only been appointed permanently in recent weeks.

The 2026/27 campaign will mark Carrick’s first full-time role since he departed Middlesbrough 12 months ago.

Everton tasted defeat against Carrick’s United back in February through Benjamin Sesko’s deciding goal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur – Roberto De Zerbi

Perhaps another slightly cheeky addition to the list, but the new campaign will also mark the first full season for Roberto De Zerbi in north London.

The Italian was only appointed at Spurs with seven games remaining in the 2025/26 campaign.

One of those games was the final outing of the season against Everton, which Spurs took three points from to secure Premier League survival.

De Zerbi has only lost one of his five games against Everton – winning two and drawing two.

Tottenham are bolstering their squad already in the market as they look to end what has been a miserable two years under various managers.

Ipswich Town – Gary O’Neil*

Despite securing automatic promotion back to the Premier League, Kieran McKenna has decided to surprisingly walk away from Portman Road.

It appears that former Bournemouth and Wolves manager Gary O’Neil is set to be appointed in the coming days as his replacement.

In his previous six games managing against Everton, O’Neil has won four of those games and lost two.
