Everton are in the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window.

David Moyes wants to bring in a back-up to Jordan Pickford with a view to making him the number one at some stage.

Pickford celebrated his 32nd birthday in March, so he isn’t getting any younger, and the club are already looking to sign his successor.

Eddie Howe rates Everton target Aaron Ramsdale

Everton are reportedly weighing up a move for Aaron Ramsdale after his season-long loan spell at Newcastle United.

Ramsdale has returned to his parent club Southampton, but is expected to be sold this summer as they’ve already signed Daniel Peretz as the number one.

Howe publicly praised the 28-year-old on a number of occasions last term and described him as ‘unbelievable’ after making a mind-blowing save against Manchester United.

“I thought he did really well today… the saves speak for themselves. But he gave us good control with his feet as well,” the Newcastle boss stated.

How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩

“Look, he’s an experienced goalkeeper, an England international, this won’t faze him. This is an opportunity for him.

“You’re looking for people, whatever position they play, to grab the opportunity, and he probably hasn’t done that well enough in recent weeks, but he can hold his head up today and know that he’s put in a great performance.”

“Whilst rewatching a clip of Ramsdale’s save against Joshua Zirkzee, Howe added: “That’s an unbelievable save…it looks better there than it did live.”

Evidently, Ramsdale would be a great addition as a back-up to Pickford, but eyebrows would be raised around Merseyside if he became the number one later down the line.

To replace Pickford, the Toffees will probably have to shell out in excess of £30m on a ready-made goalkeeper, or sign a promising up-and-coming shot-stopper.
