Everton are reportedly interested in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Everton have already made an approach to the Serie A giants.

It’s understood that the Toffees are finding out whether Juve would be willing to sell Luiz, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa.

It has been indicated that they will consider offers for Luiz, although manager Luciano Spalletti wants to assess him in pre-season.

Either way, Everton’s interest in the 28-year-old just spells more bad news for Harrison Armstrong.

Harrison Armstrong clearly isn’t in David Moyes’ plans this season

Armstrong was enjoying a sensational loan at Preston North End last term before Moyes decided to bring him back to Finch Farm during the winter.

The 19-year-old was given a decent run of games initially, but then the Scotsman benched him for the majority of the final few months of the campaign.

That led to rumours that Armstrong could leave on loan this summer, with his camp looking at potential moves to Germany and France.

Hayden Hackney’s arrival earlier this month only moved him further down the pecking order, and now the Luiz link pretty much confirms that Moyes doesn’t have much belief in the youngster, at least at this stage of his career.

If Luiz were to join, Armstrong would likely become the seventh-choice midfielder.

Moyes has been heavily criticised for his treatment of the young players, as Tyler Dibling and Adam Aznou have also had their development stunted under the 63-year-old.

The Toffees boss places far too much importance on experience, and this approach will no doubt frustrate the Friedkin Group.

The American investors have been keen to drive down the average age of the squad since they came in 18 months ago.

That process hasn’t really progressed under Moyes, who is entering the final year of his contract at the club.
