Everton, against all the odds, now seem set to snag a second signing from Lyon this deadline day.

The Toffees have endured a turbulent past 24 hours, with tenuous links sending fans into raptures.

It was always expected that Everton would sign Orel Mangala, but the need for a winger and a right-back always seemed more desperate.

So, when links died out regarding the latter, and their top target to fix the former problem went awry, frustration was valid.

They had put so much pressure on themselves to enjoy a profitable and progressive deadline day, and had seemingly failed.

That was, until Everton proved Fabrizio Romano wrong as they close in on Ernest Nuamah.

Everton set to sign Ernest Nuamah

Initially, there were fears when Fulham seemed set to sign Nuamah despite the Toffees having been first on the scene.

After an entire summer of failing to snag their first-choice wingers, with Yaser Asprilla, Wilfried Gnonto and Jaden Philogene all snubbing Kevin Thelwell, this just felt like more of the same of this sad never-ending cycle.

But, Everton were keen to change the narrative, and whilst it’s only fresh, things do look promising.

Reporter Santi Aouna has since written: ‘Agreement reached between Ernest Nuamah and Everton. But some details need to be sorted out before the Ghanaian winger leaves.’

Augustine Ahinful and Asamoah Gyan react to Ernest Nuamah

As one of the top talents coming out of Ghana, Nuamah already has a name for himself in his homeland and now France.

A dynamic and rapid-fast trickster who is sure to get fans out of their seats at Goodison Park, reactions to the 20-year-old’s talent have been varied.

After all, Flemming Pedersen, his former manager at FC Nordsjaelland, once claimed: ‘Ernest is first and foremost a dribbler. He is incredibly fast, has a huge acceleration, and a good agility. He is primarily left-footed, but can also use the right. He is a great individualist with tremendous power, who has great potential to also become a skilled team player.’

Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan would echo that sentiment: ‘Ernest Nuamah’s call-up to the Black Stars is excellent because he is a good player.

‘I posted him after the Black Meteors qualified for the CAF U23 AFCON and I said he will be a good player and I am happy with his conclusion.’

However, not all of his compatriots are complimentary of Nuamah, with Augustine Ahinful criticising the winger for over-exuberance last year: ‘They’ve done well but Nuamah needs to learn not to take players on all the time. Not all balls you have to take on a player.’
