Harrison Armstrong’s loan spell at Preston North End has been cut short after David Moyes decided to bring him back to Everton.

Everton are going through an injury crisis at the moment and that’s coincided with AFCON, so the squad is pretty threadbare at the moment.

As such, Moyes made the decision to recall Armstrong from the Championship outfit, and he is available to face Brentford this weekend.

Would you start Harrison Armstrong vs Brentford? 🤔

Armstrong was really impressing Preston fans, so it was a little shock to them that Everton decided to terminate his loan.

The 18-year-old has taken to Instagram following the news with a short message.

The ideal scenario for Everton was for Armstrong to remain at Preston for the season so that he could develop at the right pace.

Armstrong was also keen to stay at Deepdale and play as many minutes as possible, but Moyes’ hand was forced in the end.

The teenager has now released a short statement on Instagram, which shows how much he enjoyed his time at North End.

Armstrong posted: “Some club, it’s been a pleasure.”

The England youth international will now have to quickly turn his attention to his commitments for Everton, as he could well start against Brentford.

With Idrissa Gana Gueye away at AFCON, Armstrong is probably the best ball-winner in Moyes’ squad at the moment.

David Moyes still has key Harrison Armstrong decision to make

According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon, Moyes will be keeping very close tabs on Armstrong in training and in the minutes he does play.

It’s understood that the Scotsman still has a decision to make on whether he will allow the young midfielder to return to Preston before the end of the window.

Moyes only wants him to stay if he steps up and becomes a key pillar in his side, so January will almost be somewhat of a four-week trial period for the 2007-born star.

Even if Armstrong does end up back at Preston, the Toffees still plan to include him in their first-team plans next season.

An intriguing month lies ahead.
