He left Everton in 2023, now he’s one of the best strikers in his league after 37 goals for new club

During the summer of 2023, Everton were still dealing with PSR issues and had to be careful with their spending.

Sean Dyche was only able to make three permanent signings that summer as Beto, Youssef Chermiti and Ashley Young joined.

Everton also had to raise funds through player sales, with the likes of Moise Kean, Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray departing.

The Toffees also had to move on some of their best academy talent, and now one of their former youngsters has established himself as one of the best strikers in his league.

Former Everton striker flourishing at Coventry City

Everton sanctioned the sale of Ellis Simms for around £5m to Championship outfit Coventry City back in the summer of 2023.

Since then, Simms has scored an impressive 37 goals for the Sky Blues, and he’s enjoying a really productive season this term.

That is absolutely genius from Ellis Simms!

The 2001-born striker has netted 10 league goals and is only three behind the division’s top scorer Zan Vipotnik.

Simms won the Championship Player of the Month award for November and is widely regarded as one of the best centre-forwards in the league.

Ellis Simms is averaging a goal every 97 minutes

Simms has only actually started 11 games across all competitions this season, but he’s still managed to score 11 goals in all competitions.

In the Championship, the 24-year-old averages a goal every 97 minutes, making him the most clinical number nine.

West Ham United have actually shown an interest in Simms, but they’ve decided to bring in different striking targets.

Anyhow, Simms looks set to return to the Premier League next season as Coventry are streaking away at the top of the table.
