Everton could finally be about to pull off a seriously smart piece of transfer business.
It has been a sluggish start to this summer’s transfer market at Everton, with the Toffees struggling to get a deal for Hayden Hackney over the line.
Departures are expected on Merseyside over the coming weeks and months as David Moyes continues to wave goodbye to some of his players struggling for minutes.
Everton’s fixtures for 2026/27 have been released! What immediately caught your eye about them? 🤩
Tim Iroegbunam is a player Everton could sell this summer and an opportunity to cash-in on the midfielder is emerging for The Friedkin Group.

Everton handed golden chance to sell Tim Iroegbunam to Hull City
It is being suggested by Hull Live that Everton are receiving interest from the newly-promoted Hull City over Iroegbunam.
This comes just two years after the 22-year-old made the move to Merseyside for a believed £9m.
Everton News columnist Alan Myers has called for Iroegbunam to play more under Moyes following some really strong performances in the 2025/26 term.
The midfielder made 17 starts for Everton in the Premier League, with his opportunities largely coming through Idrissa Gana Gueye’s respective absences.
How would you feel about Hayden Hackney becoming Everton’s first signing? 🤩
Taking to TalkingPoints, a number of Everton supporters have shared mixed feelings on Iroegbunam.
Improvements were on display throughout the 25/26 campaign, with Iroegbunam proving to be a solid midfielder defensively.
Per game, Iroegbunam was able to average 2.3 tackles, 2.7 ball recoveries and 0.8 interceptions.
However, it was clear that the 22-year-old was still lacking in a number of areas, which was ultimately holding him back from nailing down a spot in the starting XI.
It was in possession where Iroegbunam lacked, with his 81% pass accuracy and 38% successful dribble rate leaving a lot to be admired.
Considering the deficiencies in his game that was proving an issue for Moyes, securing a potential sale to more than double what was paid for him in 2024 appears to be a great opportunity for Everton.
Everton could turn Iroegbunam fee into Hayden Hackney signing
Currently, Everton are struggling to agree a deal for Hackney in their club-to-club talks with Middlesbrough.
Questions are being asked of just how much Everton actually have to spend this summer, in what is The Friedkin Group’s second summer at the club.
Some of this potential fear could be relieved through the sale of Iroegbunam for £20m.
There is a belief that Boro value Hackney in the region of £20m, which would clearly create some headroom for Everton to pounce by cashing in on their 22-year-old.
Strong midfield competition at Everton could freeze Iroegbunam out
Although Iroegbunam did manage 17 starts in the Premier League over the 25/26 campaign, it was clear that he was by no means first choice when every player was fit.
Merlin Rohl seriously impressed at Everton in the final weeks of the campaign, which only adds to the competition for places in Moyes’ midfield.
James Garner’s spot is a dead cert, whilst Everton await on a decision from Idrissa Gana Gueye and his camp over his contract offer.
Amongst all of this, academy graduate Harrison Armstrong remains eager to impress on Merseyside.
Despite the interest in Hackney, Everton are not looking to move Armstrong on this summer, with a place in the midfield there to be won over this summer’s pre-season.
In a complete contrast to other areas of the pitch, midfield is an area where Everton actually boast a bloated squad.
This appears to be an opportunity to part ways with one of their players in a deal that would benefit all involved.
