Everton fans have been through a lot of uncertainty and difficult moments over the last five years.
Everton have been thrown into multiple relegation battles and have been handed points deductions due to PSR breaches.
It looked as though those difficult times were behind them under the new ownership, particularly from a financial perspective.
How are we being punished again by the Premier League? 😡
Everton ordered to pay Burnley £40m in compensation…
But, it’s now being reported that Everton will have to pay Burnley a whopping £40m in compensation after the Clarets successfully argued they were financially impacted through relegation due to the Toffees’ breach.
That said, it’s now emerged how the Premier League feel about the whole situation.
Premier League didn’t want Everton situation to escalate any further
Journalist Paddy Boyland, speaking on the Blue Room YouTube channel, believes the Premier League didn’t want this situation.
They feel Everton have already been punished enough and want to reconcile with the club under the Friedkin Group.
“And I’ll be honest, I think this has gone further from what I’m told than even the league particularly would have wanted,” Boyland admitted.
“I think they were looking to make an example of Everton with those two breaches and there was quite clearly I think some bad blood on both sides.
“But this is a very different Everton now with different ownership, much more kind of collaborative, much more conciliatory.
Which Everton player are you expecting to have the best World Cup? 🏆
“I think you’ve seen that in some of the recent actions from the Premier League, actually, I mean they obviously discontinued one potential claim against Everton for another PSR issue, another interest payment-related issue.
“And even in this situation here, they’ve effectively said that Everton’s compensation that’s owed to Burnley won’t be counted against future PSR and SCR calculation. So again, another attempt at reconciliation effectively.”
That’ll certainly be encouraging to hear for Everton supporters and perhaps the final fee due to Burnley may be significantly less than the current fee being reported.
That’s because the club have appealed the decision, so they’ll be eagerly awaiting the outcome of that process.
