Paul Brown has admitted that recent comments made by Amadou Onana aren’t what fans ‘will like to hear’.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist reacted to the Everton midfielder’s interview and claimed that supporters shouldn’t worry.

Onana was linked with a move away from Goodison Park over the summer after a stellar first campaign since joining from Lille in a £33 million deal.

The Belgian caught the eye of Manchester United and Chelsea, but ended up staying at Everton due to his huge price tag.

While Onana has given fans a mixed bag of performances this time round, the 22-year-old has refused to say whether he will leave Merseyside in the upcoming transfer windows.

Speaking whilst on international duty with Belgium, Onana had said: “I’m not going to say that it [international duty] is my main source of motivation because I take very seriously the task that I have with Everton, namely, to help the club to survive.

“But I must admit that this change in atmosphere and finding a team with high-quality players changes the mood. Mentally, it does me a lot of good. That was my goal at the start of the season. But like I said I don’t have a crystal ball. I am not able to tell you what will happen in the future.”

Onana’s comments caused some concern around Merseyside, with many wondering whether he will be looking to move away before next season. There has also been some criticism regarding his comments after he suggested that Everton don’t have ‘high-quality players’.

However, Brown has since reassured fans that they shouldn’t worry.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I mean, I suppose it’s not a positive thing when you hear a player saying something like that. It depends really on the context but I do suspect that there is a lot of outside noise at the moment with Everton because of the takeover that’s currently progressing.

“There is the fact that the club have not enjoyed the best start to the season and there are people already wondering how far they can go or whether they’ll be in trouble again.

“I’m sure that for a lot of players, getting away with their national team is a nice break from the Premier League full stop really, because the Premier League can be a pressure cooker and quite a grind. So I don’t think it’s particularly concerning really, for players to come out with this kind of stuff, but I guess it isn’t what fans like to hear.”

Was Amadou Onana disrespectful to Everton?

Amadou Onana probably didn’t choose his words very carefully and it certainly comes across as disrespectful to suggest Everton don’t have very good players.

However, it is completely understandable for him to enjoy getting away from Goodison Park and enjoying a more relaxing time on international duty – bar Onana’s red card against Austria.

While there is still likely to be interest in the midfielder next summer, Onana knows his position at the club could all be down to the takeover being completed. The Belgian doesn’t seen anymore likely to leave than he did a few months ago.
