Everton have been linked with a move to sign Jacob Murphy.
It emerged at the start of July that Everton were exploring a deal to sign Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy.
Murphy has 12 months left on his contract on Tyneside, so there is an opportunity for the Toffees to land his signature for a discounted fee.
The 31-year-old, who registered five goal involvements in the Premier League last term, is believed to be an alternate target to Jack Grealish.

However, a fresh development suggests the Toffees are unlikely to sign Murphy this summer.

Murphy started Newcastle’s second pre-season friendly against non-league side Gateshead on Saturday afternoon.
In fact, Eddie Howe actually handed the Toffees target the captain’s armband, which may be an indication that he very much remains part of the manager’s plans.
Quite clearly, Murphy is a valued member of the squad, and it’d be unusual for a player who is expected to leave to be made the captain.
Howe also gave him 78 minutes before substituting him, evincing their eagerness to improve his fitness and sharpness ahead of the new Premier League season.

So, all the signs very much suggest that Murphy will be staying at Newcastle and potentially seeing out the final year of his contract.
As a free agent, the former Norwich City forward will be able to negotiate a higher salary with his next club.
That seems like the more attractive plan for Murphy, rather than departing St James’ Park this window.
