Everton have seen a number of their players depart for just over a week in the final international break of the year.

This will provide Sean Dyche with an opportunity to take stock ahead of what could be a really tricky December lying ahead of Everton.

There have been plenty of ups and downs for the Toffees so far in the first months of the season with injuries plaguing Dyche’s options.

Jarrad Branthwaite has suffered another injury setback which has seen him return to Finch Farm from the latest England camp.

James Tarkowski and Michael Keane have featured prominently at centre-back for Everton so far this season.

But this could provide Jake O’Brien with an opportunity to make his first real impression on the starting XI at Everton.

Jake O’Brien sends Sean Dyche message over Everton opportunity

Since signing for the Toffees in the summer, O’Brien has impressed Dyche with his work ethic behind the scenes in training.

That has not translated into game time, however, with the Republic of Ireland international playing a mere 26 minutes in the Premier League.

Speaking on Everton’s YouTube channel, O’Brien has admitted he’s ready to take his chance when Dyche eventually gives him it.

“I knew coming here I’d have to be patient, at the other clubs I’d been at I’ve been patient, it’s something that’s all part of it,” said O’Brien.

“Once I get my chance, hopefully I’ll grab it with two hands and go from there.”

Although the Irishman is struggling for game time currently, O’Brien did impress in Everton’s pre-season with goals in his opening two games for the club.

Sean Dyche must start Jake O’Brien vs Brentford

Next up for Everton is Brentford in the Premier League and it looks as if they could be sweating over the fitness of Branthwaite.

Dyche did say Branthwaite wasn’t fully fit ahead of the game against Southampton despite being told otherwise by the Everton medical staff.

And that does seem to be the case with the defender now out again with an injury setback.

Everton have conceded 17 goals in their opening 11 games with Everton fans criticising James Tarkowski recently.

O’Brien is receiving interest from French clubs ahead of January given his lack of game time so putting the £17m summer singing into the starting XI could be a smart move.
