Everton have secured their fourth signing of the summer in what has been a very busy transfer window so far.

The Toffees entered the window worrying whether they would breach PSR once again this summer, but they managed to balance the books.

Sean Dyche has since been rewarded for a strong end to the 2023/24 campaign with the signings of four new faces.

Jake O’Brien has marked the latest addition to his squad earlier this week after an agreement was reached with Lyon over the weekend.

And the new Everton defender has now shared an insight on the chats he had with Dyche and the sporting director, Kevin Thelwell, ahead of his move to Goodison Park.

What Jake O’Brien said Sean Dyche told him about Everton

The Blues have now covered all of the major outfield positions this summer and now they may turn to addressing more specific needs.

Everton are now believed to be competing for Wilfried Gnonto with two sides from Serie A.

Having sold Ben Godfrey earlier in the window, Everton needed a new centre-back and they have added a 6ft 8 giant in O’Brien.

And it does not seem as if the Ireland international needing much persuading to make the move to Merseyside after his conversation with Dyche.

Speaking to Everton TV, O’Brien has shed some light on what was said between him, Dyche and Thelwell ahead of the move.

“Speaking to Kevin and the manager, the project they have for me is exciting,” said the 23-year-old.

“It’s a very historic club as well, so it wasn’t a tough choice, really.

“There’s been interest for a while, and I think it shows what they think of you. It’s a very exciting move.”

Who will Everton sign next in the transfer market?

Despite the continuous links to specific players from across the world, there may be some concerns as to whether Everton are even able to bring in any further signings.

Speaking after the defeat to Coventry City, Dyche admitted Everton may not be able to sign any further players due to their financial situation.

“I don’t think so with the finances that we have got, or haven’t, as the case may be. But we will have to wait and see,” Dyche told the media.

And this has all been caused by the mess that has become the takeover with Farhad Moshiri struggling to get a deal over the line.

Everton are believed to have enough money for the short term, but whether that means they can spend further in the market remains to be seen.
