Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye return to Everton as champions of Africa.
The pair were victorious with Senegal in Morocco, securing a historic Africa Cup of Nations win which will hopefully fill them with confidence in the second half of the season at Everton.
After Idrissa Gueye posted a message on behalf of himself and Iliman Ndiaye on Instagram, the likes of James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam were quick to respond.
Will Idrissa Gana Gueye walk back into Everton’s starting XI after AFCON? 🤨
Another strong display from the Senegalese veteran! 💪
Squad unity at Everton seems strong as James Garner sends love to Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye
Gueye has now acknowledged support from Everton fans whilst he and Ndiaye were away in Morocco, posting: “UTT (Up the Toffees). Thank you Toffees. We haven’t forgotten your support throughout the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Garner – who is close to signing a new deal – was among the first to reply, sending a blue heart emoji in response.
Iroegbunam also reacted quickly, posting two emojis in the shape of a heart as well.
Gueye and Ndiaye arrived back at Everton at just the right time, with confidence high under David Moyes after a 1-0 win at Villa Park, which put the Toffees four points off fourth place in the Premier League.
Jack Grealish is also injured – potentially missing around three months with a foot problem – so Ndiaye’s attacking spark in particular is needed now more than ever.
Pardon the cliché, but David Moyes will feel like he has made several new signings
Not only is Moyes about to get two key players back in Ndiaye and Gueye, but another important figure is also close to a return in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
The Everton No.22 posted on Instagram earlier on Thursday to tease his return to training at Finch Farm, captioning a string of recovery photos with the line: “But now let’s get back to the real work.”
Who would you play at left wing in place of the injured Jack Grealish? 🤔
The winger is reportedly facing THREE months out – do Everton need to sign a replacement?
As aforesaid, Everton will already be confident after defeating a top side in Aston Villa, and the belief within the club will surely only increase once Gueye, Ndiaye and Dewsbury-Hall return to the pitch.
