James Tarkowski has been an excellent servant at Everton and is a leading figure in the dressing room.

The Everton centre-back has proved to be an absolute bargain since joining on a free from Burnley in 2022.

Tarkowski suffered a hamstring injury which won’t see him return till David Moyes’ first pre-season since his return.

However, Tarkowski will be removing his brace soon, showing progress for the 32-year-old.

Moyes can rely upon the defender next season as a key asset, and his mindset seems to be in the right place.

James Tarkowski’s Everton prediction after Moyes chat

It seems as though the defender has come into his prime at Everton with him having a key role in The Friedkin Group’s project.

Tarkowski knows Everton will change, and only for the better, as the new owners have the Toffees on a upwards trajectory.

The centre-back has that connection in the dressing room that Moyes needs as Tarkowski has adopted the nickname ‘paintbrush’.

It’s unclear what that actually means, but Tarkowski has made a prediction which he fully means after a chat with Moyes.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Tarkowski said: “The manager has mentioned it, we can look at Forest – a team who was down there and got right up there this season… so why can’t we?

“That will be our ambition going into next season.”

Tarkowski’s Everton injury ruined incredible record

What the centre-back is known for is his consistentcy, so to see an injury is certainly a rarity.

But this is the exact reason why he should be a key focal point of Moyes’ regime, and the Scotsman will know that himself.

Tarkowski doesn’t like the pressure at Everton as that will weigh on many player’s minds, but he’s shown he can handle the pressure time and time again, and came three games away from beating a fantastic record.

It’s so unfortunate for the defender who deserved this feat, but it gives insight into what he can offer at his age.

He shares the same ambition as the owners, and that’s shown through Tarkowski’s desire for a place in Europe next season.
