Everton defender James Tarkowski is set to miss the remainder of the season through injury.

The Everton centre-back sustained a hamstring injury during the recent defeat against Manchester City and Goodison Park.

Tarkowski has played a huge role under all of the managers he has experienced since making the move to Merseyside.

David Moyes has returned Jake O’Brien to his natural centre-back position in the absence of the 32-year-old captain.

Chris Sutton thought Tarkowski’s injury changed the game when they faced City a few weeks ago in L4.

But there will be no return this season for the defender who has just shared an update on the extent of his injury.

Everton’s James Tarkowski shares injury update

Ahead of the summer, Tarkowski is expecting a lot of summer signings at Everton in what will be the Friedkins’ first real transfer window.

The club is set to undergo even more changes over the coming weeks after a busy start to the new owners’ tenure on Merseyside.

And Tarkowski is fully expected to play his part in the new look Everton as he shared an injury update on Sky Sports during his Monday Night Football appearance.

“A week on Tuesday [brace is removed]. So not long to go,” he said.

“It looks a lot worse than it actually is. It just restricts my movement.”

Presenter Dave Jones added: “James has just been telling us he hopes to be back in action for pre-season and for the move to the new stadium.”

Troy Deeney hailed Tarkowski for pocketing Liam Delap earlier in the season when the two sides met at Portman Road.

Everton have formed one of the Premier League’s top defences and Tarkowski has certainly played his role in that.

James Tarkowski denied Premier League record

The injury may not affect Everton’s season too much considering they had already secured survival.

However, it came at such a cruel time for the defender on a personal note as he was just three games away from becoming a record holder.

Tarkowski had started 111 consecutive Premier League games and was just three more away from beating Wayne Bridge and take the record.

“I was fully aware. One of the staff at the club had done their research,” he said.

“But I was very close. Three short, so very disappointing, but at least I made the top three.”
